Carpet Stain Removal

I wish I could tell you guys where I saw this, but I can't remember. I think it may have been Pinterest, but I'm not sure. However, if you are looking for a great stain removal trick for your carpet, then boy do I have a fantastic trick for you.

Start by mixing one part clear Ammonia with one part hot water in a spray bottle.
That is a 50/50 mixture of the two.

Locate a stain on your carpet that you wish to destroy. :) I chose to show you one located in a really high traffic area of our living room. Saturate the stain with Ammonia mixture and scrub using a clean white cloth. Yes... you have to use a white cloth. We are in the process of transferring the stain from the carpet to the cloth and if you use a colored cloth you with will be transferring the color rather then the stain.

When you are done scrubbing your rag should look pretty nasty. Now spray the stain with Ammonia mixture one more time (make sure to saturate) and then cover the stain with a clean white towel. Take a hot iron, and using the steam mode, iron over the stain. You will start to notice more of the stain coming through the towels. Check the stain and if needed repeat the process of spraying and ironing.

When you are finished you will notice a huge difference. Please note that I chose a high traffic area to do this on and now it looks like I have a lot more cleaning ahead of me.

This was a great way to pull stains out of my carpet that have been there for years. I was really sceptical at first, but after trying it out I was astonished with the results. Give it a try and see what your results are. If you have any other great ideas for lifting stains out carpet without damaging it I would love to hear them.

WARNING: When washing the towels... please make sure you DO NOT BLEACH TOWELS. Ammonia and Bleach creates a harmful gas that will hurt you. Make sure you wash your towels without the bleach and then if you wish you can bleach the towels. However, if you want to use the towels again to continue on the carpet you need to put the towels through a third wash cycle without the bleach (this is to make sure you rinse out all the bleach in the towels).
